Safe food is based on safe production of livestock/aquaculture. Therefore, there are also requirements for the feed that the animals receive. Schemes within feed production contain requirements that feed producers can document production conditions and traceability.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration carries out inspections of feed companies, cf. the Feed Control Executive Order. It is stated that the agency can carry out fewer visits if the company has a quality system that is certified by an accredited certification body.

DANAK accredits for certification to a number of feed schemes as well as for management systems in the area.

ISO/IEC  9001, ISO/IEC 22000 AND FSSC 22000

ISO/IEC 9001 is the general standard for quality management systems. DANAK accredits for certification to this whitin feed production. In this regard, DANAK accredits certification bodies in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17021-1 standard.

DANAK accredits certification bodies according to the standard ISO/IEC 22003, category D. Category D is divided into: DI feed for livestock/aquaculture and DII feed for pets.

FSSC 22000 is an industry scheme established by an association of global food producers. FSSC 22000 is based on ISO/IEC 22000 and can only be used for feed within category DI. DANAK accredits certification bodies to ISO 22003-1 + the requirements of the scheme.
